MPO Bike Subcommittee Meeting, October 10, 2012
The Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization's Bicycle Subcommittee meets again this Wednesday, October 10, 2012, from Noon to 1 p.m. at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center in downtown Lafayette.
This week's agenda items include updates to the MPO's 2035 Bikeway Plan and a resolution to allow for dedication of 10% of Annual Urban Systems Funding for Bike/Ped improvements in the Lafayette Metropolitan Study Area. For the full agenda click here
Bicycle Subcommittee meetings are open to the public. Meetings are intentionally scheduled alternately over lunch or on a week day evening to facilitate participation. Bike Lafayette has one representative on the committee, and Bike Lafayette members also attend as members of the public. Committee members and MPO staff who facilitate the committee's work have been very open to Bike Lafayette members' presence, questions and input.
Our attendance has been really instructive for understanding the role of the MPO and how we as bicycle advocates can become engaged. If you want to contribute to public efforts to area improvements in bicycling conditions, this is a great place to plug in.

Biketober Fest
At least once a quarter area cycling clubs - Cajun Cyclists, Krewe de Velo, Petit Paris Cycling, Bike Lafayette, and others - come together for a "cycling social." In addition to being just plain fun, these free events serve to build community among diverse cyclists throughout Acadiana.
Organized by Cajun Cyclists, this Fall's social, Biketober Fest, takes place this Sunday, October 7. Meet up is at Myran's Maison de Manger in Arnaudville. There will be 20, 30 and 40 mile route options, with maps will be provided at the start. All rides leave at 8 a.m. These are no drop rides, so don't let speed worries keep you at home.
Following the ride, Bike Lafayette will have its monthly Board Meeting over brunch at Myran's. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the organization is welcome to join us. As one of Bike Lafayette's main purposes is to represent the interests of all area cyclists, we not only welcome but encourage your participation and input.
We look forward to seeing you there!
